My PCOS journey:
Vulnerabilities and all.
The biggest problem with new age women's health issues is that even many women fail to empathize with them. How can we expect men to empathize with women's health?
When I talk about women's health I don't mean "PERIODS" or "PTSD Post pregnancy" or "MENOPAUSE".. There are so many health issues that are not being talked about enough (at least from where I'm from 😒). Starting with a few - PCOS, PCOD, Thyroid, Hormonal imbalance and other lifestyle diseases. Not to mention that they have no cure and the only solution we have is to manage it and its symptoms.
While fighting with its symptoms.. one of the biggest things that helped me overcome my PCOS and Hormonal imbalance is some much needed moral support. Of course strength training, diet, 8 hours of sleep, managing stress and having a positive mind too.. but being surrounded by those who make an effort to understand ur health is a blessing.
I suffered excessive hair loss and weight gain and as a woman I've been constantly reminded that those "Assets" (Head full of hair and a slim figure) are the only things that add value to me and my existence.. and it's messed up how even the most educated are unaware about women's health.
Truth be told, I've spent years of my life picking up my pieces and reconstructing myself emotionally, mentally and physically. The sleepless nights I had were consumed by me obsessing about my body, its image and how it was perceived by everyone around me. The world has successfully convinced me that I am nothing without this so called "Perfect body". I lost many opportunities because of my negative body image. Deep down I knew that I am smart, creative, funny, kind and I am also known to be a good friend. But people succeeded in making me feel less than what I am.
As I write this, I want to convey that you are not alone. I believe that I am not the only one feeling this way.
Being surrounded by people who truly make an effort to understand ur health and ur erratic mood swings (because of ur health) is a huge blessing.. God knows that I want that in my life. Everyone wants to feel empathised and if u don't have someone that empathises with ur health.. I hope my empathy towards women's health helped u.
I am now 27 years old and I have finally succeeded in managing my PCOS symptoms (Physical and mental symptoms) after struggling with them for the past 9 years. Yup.. I lost most of my 20s to PCOS and I am cautiously optimistic that the struggle is over now. And even if it comes back.. at least I know how to deal with it.

PCOD / PCOS
PCOS, or Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, has become increasingly common among women of reproductive age in recent years. Women who have this condition may have irregular or altered menstrual cycles. The ovaries may also grow a lot of fluid-filled sacks that are incapable of releasing eggs. An endocrine disorder called PCOS/PCOD is a major contributor to infertility. Subfertility is a term used to describe a condition where a person is trying to get pregnant but is having a difficult time.
Best Ayurveda treatment for PCOD and PCOS
SYMPTOMS OF PCOS/PCOD
These are some of the typical PCOS/PCOD symptoms.
Period irregularities: Women may experience irregular menstrual cycles.
Missed Periods: Missed periods may occasionally last a long time. This may continue for several months.
Severe bleeding: This is caused by a thicker than usual uterine lining. Females can have prolonged periods of heavy bleeding.
Hair growth: The back, belly, chest, and face may all experience excessive hair growth. This ailment, also known as hirsutism, can be an annoying PCOS symptom.
Acne: Areas like the face, chest, and back are more likely to experience breakouts.
Obesity: Studies have shown that managing one’s weight can significantly lessen the symptoms of PCOS in up to 80% of females who have the condition.
Hair thinning and loss: Women with PCOS/PCOD may experience hair thinning and loss. The body’s overabundance of androgens is the cause of this.
Skin darkening: The nose, groin, under the breasts, and other places may develop dark skin pigmentation or patchy skin growth.
Headaches: A hormonal imbalance known as PCOS or PCOD can occasionally result in headaches.
Pelvic pain and fatigue: Women with PCOS may experience feelings of discomfort, such as pain in the pelvic area, along with fatigue.
REASONS BEHIND PCOS
High levels of androgen
A woman’s body contains a small amount of male hormones known as androgens. However, in PCOS, the amount of male hormones increases, which can prevent the ovaries from producing eggs during the monthly menstrual cycle. This can cause acne and excessive hair growth in women, which is one of the main symptoms of PCOS.
High levels of insulin
The insulin hormone is in charge of regulating the body’s glucose levels. PCOS is a condition in which many women have insulin resistance, which means that the glucose in the blood is not being used properly by their cells. Women are more likely than men to have a family history of Type 2 Diabetes. To avoid Type 2 Diabetes in the future, lifestyle changes are advised.Obesity and unhealthy lifestyle leads to PCOS
AYURVEDIC APPROACH TO PCOD/PCOS / Best Ayurveda treatment for PCOD and PCOS
According to the ancient texts of Ayurveda, it is referred to as “Granthi” in some cases, which refers to the development of abnormalities such as cysts, ulcers, lumps, or tumors. According to Ayurveda, PCOS is caused by imbalance of Rasa and Rakta Dhatus, as well as an imbalance in the three Doshas of the body (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha). These Rasa-Rakta Dhatus are weakened as a result of Dosha imbalance and Ama (toxins) buildup in the body. This can result in cyst formation and other PCOS symptoms.
Normally, the Vata Dosha dominates the reproductive system, and the female reproductive organs are made of “Artava Dhatu,” which nourishes the ovum. Vata Dosha is in charge of the follicle and ovum movement into the uterine fallopian tubes. The sub-dosha “Apana Vayu” is in charge of the downward flow or menstrual flow. Pitta Dosha is important for hormone production and balance in the body. The Kapha Dosha is in charge of nourishing and promoting follicle, uterine, and ovum tissue growth. As a result, a harmonious balance of the three Doshas is essential for producing healthy hormones and maintaining the health of the female reproductive system.

The Role of Diet in Managing PCOS and Infertility
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/fbe100ae6851b51d59e5c944044fe0e7/3c1c59897fd548ed-6f/s540x810/1073292a4a67f3196a3e71915853eb29069570a9.jpg)
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a common hormonal disorder affecting many women of reproductive age. It can cause a variety of symptoms, including irregular menstrual cycles, acne, weight gain, and infertility. Understanding the role of diet in managing PCOS and enhancing fertility is crucial for women seeking to improve their health and increase their chances of conception.
Are you looking for effective dietary strategies to manage PCOS and boost your chances of conception? Consulting a Fertility Expert in Baner, like Dr. Asmita Dongare at Cloverleaf Specialty Clinic or Jupiter Hospital in Baner, can provide tailored advice to support your journey towards better health and fertility.
Understanding PCOS and Its Impact on Fertility:
PCOS affects approximately 1 in 10 women, making it one of the leading causes of infertility. Women with PCOS often experience insulin resistance, which can lead to elevated blood sugar levels and hormonal imbalances. These factors contribute to difficulties in ovulation and may hinder the ability to conceive. However, with the right dietary choices and lifestyle changes, women can manage their symptoms effectively.
Dietary Strategies for Managing PCOS:
Low Glycemic Index Foods: Foods with a low glycemic index (GI) help regulate blood sugar levels and improve insulin sensitivity. Incorporating whole grains, legumes, fruits, and vegetables can stabilize blood sugar and reduce cravings.
High Fiber Foods: A fiber-rich diet aids digestion and helps control weight, which is essential for managing PCOS symptoms. Foods like oats, lentils, beans, fruits, and vegetables should be staples in your diet.
Anti-inflammatory Foods: Chronic inflammation is common in women with PCOS. Including anti-inflammatory foods such as fatty fish (like salmon), nuts, seeds, leafy greens, and spices like turmeric can help reduce inflammation and improve overall health.
Healthy Fats: Incorporating healthy fats from avocados, olive oil, and nuts can support hormone production and overall reproductive health.
Regular Meal Patterns: Eating smaller meals throughout the day can help maintain stable blood sugar levels. This approach prevents insulin spikes that can exacerbate PCOS symptoms.
Hydration: Drinking plenty of water is essential for overall health. Herbal teas like green tea may also be beneficial due to their antioxidant properties.
Key Nutrients for Managing PCOS and Infertility:
In addition to dietary changes, certain supplements may support fertility in women with PCOS:
Inositol: This supplement has been shown to improve insulin sensitivity and may help restore ovulation.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Found in fish oil or flaxseeds, omega-3s can reduce inflammation and support reproductive health.
Vitamin D: Many women with PCOS are deficient in vitamin D; supplementation can help regulate menstrual cycles.
Folic Acid: Important for all women trying to conceive, folic acid supports fetal development.
Recommended Diet Plan for Women with PCOS and Infertility:
Here is a sample diet plan that can help in managing PCOS and improving fertility:
Breakfast: Oats porridge with chia seeds, almonds, and fresh berries.
Mid-Morning Snack: A handful of mixed nuts or a boiled egg.
Lunch: Grilled chicken or tofu salad with spinach, cucumber, tomatoes, olive oil, and lemon dressing.
Evening Snack: Greek yogurt with flaxseeds and a drizzle of honey.
Dinner: Steamed vegetables (broccoli, carrots, zucchini) with quinoa or brown rice and grilled salmon or lentils.
Post-Dinner: A cup of herbal tea (like chamomile) to relax and improve digestion.
Foods to Avoid:
Refined carbohydrates like white bread, pasta, and pastries
Sugary snacks and beverages
Processed and fried foods
Excessive caffeine and alcohol

While diet plays a crucial role in managing PCOS and infertility, it is important to work closely with a healthcare professional. Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS): Overview
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal imbalance when excess hormones are created through the ovaries. In cases of PCOS, the ovaries release exceptional hormones in very high levels that are known as androgens. It is a condition where females get periods for more than seven days, they may face irregularities in periods. The cause of PCOS is still unidentified.
Cyst may be developed on the outer edge of the ovary. Can also be defined as small sacs of fluid. The immature eggs are filled with fluid that contains cysts. Commonly known as follicles. The ovaries do not consistently release eggs as they should. PCOS may be started from the very first stage of the menstrual period and sometime, after some cycles of the period. One of the causes of infertility in females is PCOS. Not being able to ovulate regularly can be the reason for infertility or delay in pregnancy. The symptoms of PCOS may differ according to the female body reactions. We will discuss the symptoms of PCOS through which it can be diagnosed.
Symptoms of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)
Females having a condition of obesity can face severe symptoms of PCOS. Symptoms of PCOS can only be identified if a woman has any of two of these symptoms.
Inconsistent/irregular periods: Having irregularity in periods or it may come very less is a clear sign of PCOS. Or maybe the periods may last longer than usual.
